The Bee Heroes installation in the Kunstfort projectspace is open untill the 18th of december.

You can combine it with a ticket for the two art exhibitions of Rachel de Joode and Kim David Bots, opening sunday 1 oktober from 3 pm on.

Kunstfort Projects: Bee Heroes is a long-term ecological project realized at Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen. The project aims to benefit bees and people, is developed by both and indeed also concerns both.The project deals with issues such as sustainability, biodiversity, food(policy) and climate change, and asks attention for the so-called ‘colony collapse disorder,’ a worldwide problem since the 90s. This dystopian affair comes with odd phenomena such as the ‘robobees’: drones that substitute bees as pollinators.

Kunstfort Projects: Bee Heroes develops an interdisciplinary program for enthusiasts for biodiversity and people interested in cross-overs between nature and art. In and around the Kunstfort visitors will find alternating presentations of objects and (art)works concerning the bee theme. On the fort island two honeybee colonies are being sustained in a bee friendly way and bee plants can be found such as herbs, crocus, ivy and a lime tree. In the village of Vijfhuizen project volunteers maintain 6500 m2 ecological flower fields.

Kunstfort Projects: Bee Heroes organizes workshops for children with parents and at schools. Further it offers lectures about the importance of bees and biodiversity, and the role global neoliberalism plays in the phenomenon of the bees dying. The lectures form part of the Pollinator Academy from project partner the Pollinators.

The project started spring 2013 and projectleader is Mariken Straat.
